Kids say the darndest things

I'm seated at the computer as my 8 y/o daughter watches an (e/i) program on tv, in the same room . Today's topic was metamorphosis so of course frogs and butterflies were discussed. The show's host asked the children, "what do you call it, when your body changes into something else?" A very happy little boy shouts back, "Halloween!" To which my daughter laughs uncontrollably.

My Lochead birthday was so much fun!

I'm pleased with my results for now and I'll try to resist becoming impatient during the next 6 months, as my hair will probably go through a few changes.
There are many wonderful blogs here on natural hair and so many well informed ladies that I can't help but stay plugged in. So I hope my followers will too. Although, I'll only be adding monthly picture updates to my blogspot, and not much else. And of course the occasionally comment will be left by me on your blogs.

PS To all my friends who enjoyed Maxwells concert tonight in Clearwater, LF without me, I forgive you. But please Blog about it in detail and don't forget to tell how well was Chrisette Michelle's set.

Hey it's my hair, Mom let it go...

I can't believe this, my Mom is obsessing over my decision to lock my hair. I'm so annoyed by her comments. And get this she says "She's not ready yet", what is she bracing for, its my hair!

I wished I had known she had such deep feelings for my hair, I would have offered her the pleasure of paying for all those 8-14" long weaves I wore in the past. Why is it that our Mothers don't get it? Or at least mine doesn't. I've read on others' blogs that some women met opposition from the men in their lives but "not the Mama". What's up with this???

Its a shame but, this is how I wear my hair 90% of the time. So its a good thing I'm getting locked.

Can anyone tell me what is my hair's texture, type or curl pattern?

Hey what can I say, fros are easy.

R.I.P. Michael
Truely the half has not been told about all the joy and good MJ brought into the lives of others while he was on this earth. What will it cost the US Congress to honor the resolution of this American Icon and Great Humanitarian? Nothing! So why let a few ignorant Congressmen silence the respect of paying homage to someone who gave so much of himself to the world. Please be mindful and vigilant of this issue, don't let his missed childhood me in vain. We owe it to our generation to advocate for this resolution to be passed, yes its up to us! Why, because #1: many of the esteemed chamber of Congress (being old) have no idea about MJ's music and major relief efforts combatting worldwide hunger and medical crises. And becasue #2: the generation to follow (bing young) knows little about how celebrated and accomplished MJ's music is globally.
More on this is sure to come in the near future. I would like to hear your thoughts too.

About to be locked up...

If I don't stop harassing every women I see with locks someone is going to have me locked up, instead of my hair. Seriously, I've never been so obsessed about hair in my life. It seems that from the moment I decided,"this is it, "by the end of the month I'll be locked", I can spot every "natural do" within a 5mile radius. It's really getting bad y'all... so bad that while in line at the grocery store my 11y/o son begged me not to say a word to the lady ahead of us (he noticed before me she had traditional locs). I hate to say it but I shamed my son right on the spot, I couldn't even help myself. By the time I paid for my food I knew this woman's entire hair history. Thankfully she was in the mood to talk hair, but I'm going to chill because my luck may run out soon and someone may not be in the mood.
So for now I sit here still happy, nappily waiting for my lock appointment.

It's so liberating to share theses pictures. Because I had been natural for years, but was covering it up with weave. I can't tell you how many times hair dressers urged me to process my hair. Their only compliments were fashioned like this, " You're hair is so thick and healthy, it would take a relaxer very well".

My natural hidden by sewn in weave, OUCH!

Before and After

My "Kinky Curly" Crown

OMG! Must travel w/out my hair products!

Please comment on similar incident/story of your own.

As you can see from this pic... I need product.
I was just told that all my hair products must be reduced to small containers for the flight in the morning (Kansas City for 1 week). Ok, no big I could just buy more once I arrive, but then what if I can't find what I need, and not to mention the waste of leaving it all there, or shipping the products home. Now, I think I'm just being cheap, maybe a bit petty. Well I have to finish packing. Wish me luck, I'm going to compete in Skills USA' s National Competition and hope to bring home another Gold Medal. If so, this will be my 5th and final medal this year. I hope to finish school (Pharmacy Tec) by January 2010.

http://www.myptec.org/Default.asp : check me out on my schools homepage, see pics fade in/out. Yep, that's me accepting medals at State Competition last month. Add Image

Hepl me choose the best loc method for the desired look

OK for my very 1st post I'll make this short and sweet. I simply want suggestion on how to choose the best loc look/ style/ design/ or what have you , for my hair. I know the obvious will be recommended, which is, to seek a professional consultant. But so many beautiful Sista's here have wonderful hair-stories that I thought it may be easier getting your opinions. So I'm putting myself out there to the universe. Help!
Maybe some background info is necessary, so here goes. My Big Chop was in 2005, long story short it was exactly like "Waiting to Exhale", same scenario, you get the picture. Cute and Curly was my m.o. for the entire 1st year. The years that followed, I became very busy (code for too lazy to do my own hair) and wore mostly micro braids and sew in weaves. Except of course when I was honestly too busy (and not lazy) and just threw on an entire wig (I still can't believe how nice my friends were about my "fake-ness").
Fast forward to the present, today I only wear my hair! Soft wet curls or dry blow outs and usually adorned with a headband, scarf, or flower. I've surpassed my point of liberation a long time ago and am very comfortable with my hair's abilities and inabilities. I slowly feel myself falling back into wanting a more acceptable hairstyle even though I know I will remain natural until I r.i.p.
What are some suggestions for my uneasiness? Just so you know, I'm very familiar with "hair journey" blogs here and would love to hear from you. What's really on my mind is... I want some type of locs but not anything that would leave my scalp showing much, because I love the volume my hair has, although its fairly short. And what is a "palm rolled loc, anyway?"
